thanks for posting the beautiful wonderful film and the music is fine. the angry mob can't just turn the sound down. as for me, i love the film silent, i love it with the music. who knows what marcel's response would be but....he did believe art didn't just exist as a product of the artist's intention....there would be a relationship with the audience, with time, with history.... anyway thanks again.

Why are some people so angry? I don't particularly agree with the music choice, but I'm not writing in cursing about it. Good grief, this is a discussion thread about Marcel Duchamp. Is it really necessary to use the term "asshole"? I thought art people were more refined than that. That's why I rarely ever hang out on the internet. So much pointless aggression, even on an art discussion! If you want to be aggressive, go to a bar in a bad neighborhood and start a fight.

I looked it up. This music and the film were planned and originally meant to be together, but they worked on it seperately, and unfortunately, the music was much longer and the composer wanted about 16 player pianos... It would be incredibly difficult to sync with the film at that time. So, I'm pretty sure it premiered silent, and has been shown with other, as you put it, "avant-garde" music. Finally, the two compositions were married in the late 90's.
